Barrister & Mann Bay Rum – Spicy!

Pre-shave Thoughts: I was planning on a Spring themed shave this morning, but after awaking to nearly half a foot of freshly fallen snow, I think I'm going to reach for something a little spicier.  Barrister & Mann Bay Rum shaving soap paired with Captain's Choice Cat O' Nine Tails aftershave should do the trick.  After a solid exfoliation process yesterday, my face is feeling healthy and shave-ready.  Let's give this spicy shave a go.   The Shave: Preparation:  Hot shower Razor:   Merkur Heavy Duty [...]

Catie’s Bubbles LPV – The Spice of Life

Pre-shave Thoughts: Catie's Bubbles LPV (Le Piment de la Vie) is a favorite shaving soap among many wet shavers, and that goes for me as well.  This morning I've decided to pair Catie's Bubbles LPV with Captain's Choice Cat O' Nine Tails aftershave for a spice-filled and invigorating shave experience.  I'm also going to whip-up that famous Catie's Bubbles LPV lather with one of my favorite shaving brushes.  I'm expecting this shave experience to be one of my best in recent memory.  I woke up [...]

Soap Commander Courage – Take Charge

Pre-shave Thoughts: This morning I want to try out a new scent for me from Soap Commander called Courage.  It is marketed as having a peppercorn, citrus, ceder fragrance, and that sounded appealing.  So, I added some to an order a while back.  I'm just now getting around to trying it out.  I enjoy the performance of Soap Commander and have shaved with their Passion scented soap a fair amount.  I'm excited to give Soap Commander Courage a go.  My face is feeling healthy with [...]

Phoenix Coconut Bay – Drink’em both Up

Pre-shave Thoughts: I don't know what it is, but at certain times throughout my life, something calls me to the ocean.  In lieu of hopping on a plane destined for Saint Lucia, this morning I reached for Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements Coconut Bay shaving soap and decided to pair it with Captain's Choice Lime aftershave.  While I won't have sand between my toes and equatorial sun on my face anytime soon, I'm hoping this bay rum shave will in some part satisfy the call of the islands. [...]

Chiseled Face Sherlock – Elementary

Pre-shave Thoughts: I recently acquired a few new soaps, and the first one I'm reaching for out of the batch is Chiseled Face Groomatorium's Sherlock.  I've always been a Holmes fan, so I thought I'd give this one a try. There is a growing buzz among wet shavers regarding Chiseled Face, and I just have to shave with some myself as there is nothing like first-hand evidence.  Not uncommon in these winter months, my face is feeling faintly dry this morning and in need of hydration.  Come on, [...]

Captain’s Choice – Bay Rum Voyage

Pre-shave Thoughts: After a frolic in The Garden of Earthly Delights yesterday, I'm feeling a West Indies tour in my future for this morning's shave.  I've reached for my old tub of RazoRock Captain's Choice Bay Rum shaving soap.  The snow is really coming down right about now, and the Captain's Choice Bay Rum spice is calling my name like a siren from the sea cliffs.  Let's get on with it.   The Shave: Pre-shave:  Hot shower Razor:  Merkur 42c 1904 Classic Straight Bar Safety Razor [...]

Stirling Soap Co. Bonaparte – Royal Shave

Pre-shave Thoughts: After the past week of using various shave sticks including La Toja, Palmolive, Speick, and Arko, it feels good to come back to an artisan soap puck.  I prefer the use of the puck to load my shaving brush rather than the stick.  This brisk and snowy morning, I reached for a puck of the Stirling Soap Company's Bonaparte, a complex, rich-scented, tallow-based soap.  I've heard a variety of opinions on Stirling Soap Co. from glowing reviews to individual dislikes.  It's time to form [...]

Speick Shave Stick – Calming the Nerves

Pre-shave Thoughts: As I delve further down the rabbit hole on my journey using shave sticks, I reached for the Speick soap this morning.  Another well loved soap by many, this "natural" soap, as it is marketed, is derived from a medicinal plant oil that has been used for centuries throughout humanity.  You can read more about the once lost and now rediscovered magic plant on the Speick website.  In sum, the plant oil is purported to have a calming effect on the central nervous system without being [...]
